The short version
- Your network data is yours. It is visible to you alone, used only to answer your own questions, and is never public, never browsable, and never shown to other users.
- We never store email message bodies. If you connect Gmail, we process message headers only (sender, recipients, date, subject line metadata) to understand relationship strength.
- We never collect, buy, or expose contact information (emails, phone numbers) about your connections beyond what you yourself upload, and we never surface contact information through any product feature.
- We never sell your data, never use it to train models, and never pool it with other customers' data.
What we collect
Data you upload: your professional connections export (a CSV file you already have), containing names, public profile URLs, companies, positions, and connection dates.
Data you connect via Google (all read-only, all optional): your contacts (names, email addresses, organizations), your calendar events (attendees and dates, used to compute shared-meeting history), and — if you grant it — Gmail message metadata only (headers: from, to, cc, date; never subject-line content beyond what headers carry, and never message bodies).
Public professional information: we enrich the public profiles of people in your network (career history, roles, companies) from publicly available sources.
How we use it
One purpose: answering your questions about your network. We compute relationship-strength signals (e.g., shared calendar history, email reciprocity from headers) and career summaries so that your AI assistant can research your network on your behalf. Every answer is scoped to your own account. Access for connected applications is granted by you explicitly and can be revoked anytime from your dashboard.
Sharing you control (upcoming features)
Two features, both opt-in and off by default, will let you share research access — never your data — with people you choose:
Guest access. You will be able to grant named individuals the ability to ask research questions of your network. Guests receive derived, research-shaped answers only: career summaries built from public professional information, and coarse relationship-strength labels (for example, "dormant — long shared history"). Guests never receive your uploaded files, anyone's contact information, your calendar events, your email metadata, or any bulk, browsable, or machine-readable access to your network. Every grant is per-person, revocable at any time, and an audit log shows you who asked your network what.
Organization pooling.Members of an organization will be able to individually opt in to pool their networks for shared research. The pooled corpus can be queried by the organization's opted-in members and by individuals the organization designates, under the same restrictions as guest access. Each member's participation is their own choice, revocable at any time; withdrawing removes your network from the pool. Results cite which member's network surfaced a person.
In every sharing mode, the same line holds: the substantial majority of the information we hold about your network is never shared, and your non-public data — uploads, contact details, calendar events, email metadata — is never shared with anyone. Only derived summaries and labels cross the boundary, and only for the specific people you or your organization authorize.
Google API Services — Limited Use disclosure
Known Quantity's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically: we only use Google user data to provide and improve user-facing features of Known Quantity for the user who granted access; we do not transfer it except as necessary to provide those features, for security, or to comply with law; we do not use it for advertising; we do not allow humans to read it except with your explicit consent, for security, to comply with law, or when aggregated and anonymized for internal operations; and we do not use Google user data to train generalized machine-learning models.
Retention and deletion
Your data is retained while your account is active. Delete your account (or email us) and we delete your uploaded data, your Google-derived data, and your relationship signals. Revoking Google access from your dashboard or your Google Account permissions stops all further Google data processing immediately.
